Screenprinted or Embroidered?
Custom logos & personalization are applied to sweatshirts either by embroidery (small logos), applique (large logos), or screenprinting (large or small logos). The method that's best for your custom sweatshirt project will depend on how big you want your logo, how many colors are in it, how many shirts you need, and if you have a preference for the appearance of your logo when screenprinted (ink) vs. embroidered (thread). If you're not sure, just request a quote and ask us to recommend the most economical decoration method. Embroidery typically is considered a more premium appearance than screenprinting, but in some circumstances (small logo, many colors, small quantity), embroidered logos may actually be more economical than printing.
The Economics of Custom Sweatshirts
As with most custom shirt projects, the sweatshirt usually costs more than the personalization applied to it. So if you are on a budget, choose your sweatshirt carefully and you will enjoy substantial savings. The most economical choice will always be a basic crewneck sweatshirt. If you prefer the look of a hoody sweatshirt, keep in mind that pullover hoodies are more affordable than zippered hoodies. In most styles, white sweatshirts are slightly more economical than other colors.
Fabric weight and brand names also affect price. Lightweight fleece is an affordable option that works well for our balmy San Diego climate. A 7-8 oz fleece is considered lightweight. 9 oz fleece costs a bit more, but is noticeably thicker. 9 oz fleece is described by manufacturers as "heavyweight," but depending on what you have in mind, a 9oz fleece may not be thick enough to satisfy. A 12 oz fleece definitely has that thick, plush, sink-your-hands-into-it feeling that leave you feeling like you've gotten the very best quality. If in doubt about what you want, stop by our showroom to feel samples of different weight sweatshirts.
